Shani Shingnapur Temple: A Quiz

Shani Shingnapur temple located in Sonai village of Maharashtra, has garnered a lot of attention recently owing to its barring entry to women. Women are not allowed to enter the temple. Therefore, women rights group quoting gender equality is fighting for entry into the sanctum of the temple. The main deity of the temple is associated with planet Saturn. It is believed that the deity is an alive deity meaning that the deity resides in the idol itself. The temple is famous for its legends that
‘There is God but no temple’
‘There is home, but no door’
‘There is a tree but no shade’
‘There is fear but no enemy’
Following the above four legends, the deity resides out in the open on a raised platform. There is tree near it but the branches do not provide shade to the deity. Similarly, there are no door to the houses in the village although there is a door frame.
