Raspberry: 10 Question Quiz

Raspberry, the name itself is derived from the sound that is produced by the clicking of the tongue on the roof of the mouth. The fruit is named so owing to the effect it produces when put in the mouth. The fruit belongs to rose family and the commercially available variety is a hybrid between two of the wild species. It has numerous nutritional and health benefits It is rich in anthocyanins, vitamin C and minerals. Legend has it that once a nymph, Ida was entrusted with Baby Zeus. When he started crying, she went to pluck some raspberries which were white at that time. She pricked finger on the thorn and it started bleeding. The blood dropped on the fruit and thus white raspberries turned red and have been red since then. Hence, one of the species is named Rubus idaeus.
