Quizzing on Pineapple

Pineapple is a nutritious, healthy fruit with a host of anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory and even anti-cancer properties. Scientifically, pineapple is called Ananas comosus. It has a large crown made of spiny leaves at the apex and a thick stem base. The main edible part is a number of berries fused together at the core. Apart from its main use as an edible fruit, the leaves are used in Philippines to make a textile fiber called pina which is used as a material for formal clothing. The fiber is also used for making wallpapers and other furnishing materials. ‘Pineapple’ was so called owing to its stark resemblance to a pine cone. In Ananas comosus, the term ‘Ananas’ originates from the word ‘nanas’ which means excellent fruit in Tupi. On the other hand, ‘comosus’ refers to the stem of the fruit.
