  1. The caffeine in coffee chemist Friedlieb Ferdinand Runge identified it in 1819 . He was born in 1794  near Hamburg.The story of the invention is that Runge identified the mydriatic (pupil dilating) effects of belladonna extract and shared his finding to Goethe, who encouraged him to analyse coffee.A few months later, Runge identified caffeine.

    Apart from Caffeine,   Friedlieb Ferdinand Runge also invented the first coal tar dye and a related process for dyeing clothes, isolated quinine (against malaria) and is considered an originator of paper chromatography.
