  1. Mitochondria are rod-like cell organelles of aerobic eukaryotes which take part in the phase of aerobic respiration called Krebs cycle. It is popularly known as the powerhouse of the cell because they contain enzymes necessary for the total oxidation of food and release of a high amount of energy in form of ATP molecules.
