Peach is a nutritious and sumptuous fruit that has a lot of water content. They are native to China but grown commercially in many countries including European countries, Iran and some parts of Asia. Botanically they belong to the rose family and fall under the genus Prunus which includes apricots, cherries, plum, etc. In some parts of the world they are also called Persian apple or Persian plum since it reached Europe through Persia (today’s Iran). Culturally, they are of extreme importance especially in China and Japan. Peach wood was used by both Chinese and Japanese to ward off evil and the fruit is a symbol of vitality and vigour.
