Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan the man to have entirely changed the face of Qawwali was a Pakistani qawwali singer and Sufi musician. He was one of those rare people who had a fan following both in India and Pakistan. The countries mourned together at his death. He popularized qawwali worldwide by blending and stylizing it with the Western music. Qawwali was once upon a time a localized art and the artistes were given a very low social status. However, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan’s contribution to Qawwali gave the art form a new status and elevated it to a new platform- the global platform. He was born in Faisalabad on 13th October, 1948 and died at the age of 48 in London.
