Republic Day was celebrated in India amid tight security and alertness. It is one of the three national holidays observed in India. The other two are Independence Day and Gandhi Jayanti. India became an independent republic on 26th January, 1950 and hence till today, it is celebrated by hoisting the national flag and witnessing the grand display of the military might of the country. As a part of security measures there were special Wireless Integrated Public Address System deployed at all metro stations and many crowded places. In addition, there was a police every 20 mts on the road. This additional security arrangement is in the wake of the recent Pathankot air base attack. There were many firsts in this parade.
