Prasanta Chandra Mahalanobis was born on 29 June in the year of 1893 of the house at 210 Cornwallis Street in Calcutta. Prabodh Chandra (1869-1942), was the father of P. C. Mahalanobis. Mahalanobis received his early schooling at the Brahmo Boys School in Calcutta, graduating in 1908. He joined the Presidency College, Calcutta he was taught by teachers who included Jagadish Chandra Bose, and Prafulla Chandra Ray. He was an Indian scientist and also applied statistician. He is finest remembered for the Mahalanobis distance, a statistical measure, as well as for being among the members of the very first Planning Commission of free India. He made introducing research studies in anthropometry in India. He established the Indian Statistical Institute(ISI). Mahalanobis passed away on 28 June 1972, a day prior to his seventy-ninth birthday.
